Sitting slap bang on the gold-dust shores of Santa Maria in good-looking grounds, it's just a stone's throw from the shops, bars and restaurants. Yet step inside the modern-style lobby and you're transported to a world where you can escape from it all. Leading into a laid-back bar area, where you can shelter from the sun with a cool drink, sliding glass doors from here look out onto the piece de resistance – the peaceful lagoon-style pool. With a thatch-roofed swim-up bar, swishing palms peppered about and a wooden bridge spanning it, it's the perfect tropical retreat. And if you wind your way around the low-rise hotel building that laces it, you'll eventually come to another, more lively pool area where music often plays and where you'll also find the bright buffet restaurant. If you'd rather eat al fresco though, a lovely way to spend an evening here is at the hotel's other eatery which you'll find down towards the beach. And after a slap up meal and some glittering entertainment, you'll be ready to head back to your Caribbean-coloured room for some undisturbed shut eye. This is most definitely the life.

Reasonable hotel and fantastic beach ideal for windurfing etc. Town of Santa Maria is a tip, lots of 'looky looky' men who won't give up. Town is very small and has an uncomfortable feeling at night. No shops worth going in. Two small... more on this review
