Holidays in Nuweiba

An introduction to Nuweiba

Blue seas. Silver-white sands. And majestic mountains. Quite a picture, isn't it? Little wonder Nuweiba is known as the 'Pearl of the Gulf of Aqaba'. Here, exotic Bedouin-style restaurants and bustling bazaars huddle together like old friends. Bamboo beach huts freckle the shimmering shoreline. And jaw-dropping sunsets turn the evening sky pink, purple and orange. To say this place is a head-turner is a bit of an understatement - it's absolutely exquisite. And let's not forget the underwater world that the Red Sea is so famous for. As beautiful as Nuweiba is above water, the playground below the waves takes good looks to a whole other level. We're talking shallow reefs of brightly coloured coral. Clouds of rainbow-coloured tropical fish. And breathtaking glimpses of black-tipped reef sharks. In terms of things to do away from the water there's plenty to choose from. Stroll along the marina walk of Nuweiba Bay to the northern end of town. Step inside the ruined Turkish fort and admire the centuries-old well that kept the Bedouins supplied with fresh water. And with history in mind, book yourself a trip over to neighbouring Jordan where you can visit Petra, a city carved into the cliffs. Considered by many to be the eighth wonder of the world, it's well worth the journey. Add to the mix some fantastic food, swanky hotels and more watersports than you can shake a snorkel at and it's easy to see why Nuweiba is enjoying its moment in the Egyptian sun.
