Prepare to be totally chilled out. Perfectly set on the island's 'Platinum Coast', St Peter is paradise found. If your dream holiday is filled with gently swaying palms, powder-soft sands and balmy azure waters, it's about to come true. Mullins is the resort's most popular beach, where you can try your hand at a variety of watersports or simply relax in a deck chair under the shade of a casuarina tree. Then there's Heywoods, a beautiful wide stretch of fine sand with calm waters, just perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Despite the sun, sea and sand, you may be missing the charm of Old England - if not the rain - in which case the little Georgian-style parish church, straight out of a Home Counties hamlet, will make you feel right at home. And St Peter is also home to St Nicholas Abbey, built in 1650 and said to be one of only three plantation houses of that period still standing in the Western Hemisphere. If nature is your thing, wander down to Farley Hill National Park, a delightful place to stroll through leafy glades and breathe in the scent of the spectacular blooms. You can also utter some well deserved 'oohs' and 'aahs' at the spectacular views of the East Coast and the silhouetted ruins of an old sugar planter's mansion. Nearby is the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, where green monkeys have really got into the swing of living in their natural habitat of mahogany trees. But if St Peter's laid back atmosphere has you hankering for a bit more action, pop down the road to 'Little Bristol', otherwise known as Speightstown, once a bustling sugar harbour that's still got bags of life.
