"Quieter than its famous neighbour, Playa Dorada, this relaxed resort still scores ten out of ten for beach life."
If you like your beaches as long and tasty as a Cuba libre, Costa Dorada won't disappoint. It hasn't got quite the facilities of nearby Playa Dorada, but you're just a mile or so down the coast, so the sand's just as soft, the palms are as green and the blue water's every bit as balmy as anywhere on the Amber Coast. As with most Dom Rep resorts, apart from the superb watersports available from the beach, leisure activities centre mainly around your hotel. Of course, that's if you feel like doing anything at all. Relaxation is generally the order of the day, whether that means sipping cocktails, immersing yourself in the latest bestseller or simply catching some rays around the pool, the decision is yours. If you fancy upping the adrenalin level a notch, head for the Fun City park, just down the road near Playa Dorada. You can get behind the wheel of a go-kart, grand prix or bumper car and imagine you're Kimi Raikkonen shooting down the home straight at Silverstone. Nearby Puerto Plata also offers a change of scene from sun, sea and sand. It's a lively city with a traditional Dominican atmosphere and the spicy zest of a salsa sauce. Drop into one of the friendly little restaurants for some chicken and rice, then relax with a couple of rum cocktails. Or maybe take the cable car to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres? The cafe there serves awe-inspiring views with its coffee and snacks!

With an in house entertainment team and nightly shows why go any further? For a lively night of karaoke take a short taxi ride to Playa Dorada.
With small boutiques and souvenir shops within the complexes you don't have to walk very far for a shopping experience. Or you can take a stroll along the beach and in 20 minutes find yourself in the middle of the Playa Dorada Plaza for banks and a larger variety of small shops.
While you're on the North Coast, take the opportunity to visit the Gri-Gri Lagoon. A boat trip around the cobalt-blue waters will uncover peculiar rock formations, caves full of stalactites and stalagmites and swallow birds skimming across the surface of the lagoon.
