Grand Palladium Palace Resort Spa and Casino. The name says it all. It's home to the resort's spa and casino, and it's as grand as they come. Tucked into a sea of coconut palms on the edge of Bavaro's white sands, the setting alone is enough to take your breath away. But inside it's equally impressive. There's the lobby for starters. All water features and wicker-work, it's an open-sided affair that feels like they've let the outside indoors.

And there's more of the same in the restaurants. In the main buffet they've used a wall of windows to great effect. The big sweep of glass lets in plenty of light and makes it feel like you're sitting in the jungle-like gardens. Talking of gardens, they've gone all out to keep them as nature intended. The manicured lawns weave through thickets of tropical plants, past virtually untouched mangrove forests and around ponds full of flamingos.

You'll find the rooms hidden among the greenery. Sitting in two-storey villas, they're painted in shades of terracotta and each one has it's own private balcony or terrace. Inside they've balanced tropical simplicity with luxurious touches like twin whirlpool bathtubs and free minibars. And if you like the idea of a separate living area you can upgrade to a junior suite – although it's worth mentioning that the junior suites with a seaview are adults-only.

If you're bringing little ones with you, rest assured their every whim is catered for, too. They'll love the impressive play area, not to mention the hotel-run kids' club. And there's plenty for adults to do, too. On the sports front, there's everything from tennis and basketball to minigolf and boules. And throughout the day the entertainment team keeps up an endless stream of games and competitions. Evening brings with it cabaret and quizzes, or maybe even a visit to the casino. On top of all that, this hotel shares facilities with the Grand Palladium Bavaro Resort and Spa and Grand Palladium Punta Cana Resort and Spa – so as far as choice goes, the resort's your oyster.
