Bringing a little bit of luxury to the shores of Bavaro, the Grand Palladium Punta Cana is seriously stylish. From the outside, the lobby is decidedly cutting edge with clean contemporary lines and lots of glass. Inside, meanwhile, you'll find a vast swathe of marble and a warm terracotta and lemon colour scheme. With the addition of club-style wicker chairs the end result is simple but elegant.

It's a similar story in the bedrooms. Chunky modern furniture and creamy yellow walls set a comfortable and inviting scene. Marble floors reflect the light that pours through the windows. And finishing touches come in the shape of an in-room whirlpool bath, satellite TV and a private balcony or terrace.

Out by the pool, things take a tropical turn. Coconut palms provide plenty of natural shade on the terrace and there are palm-thatched parasols dotted around. The pool itself is vast, even by Caribbean standards, and as it snakes around the sun terrace there are lots of quiet sunbathing spots to be found. There's also a swim-up bar where you can order a drink without getting out of the water.

On the restaurant front, there's plenty to choose from. The main eatery serves buffet food from around the world in a contemporary green and cream-coloured setting. It comes complete with show-cooking stations and an Italian corner, so you'll find something to suit all tastes here. And as this hotel is part of the Palladium Resort Bavaro, it shares facilities with the Grand Palladium Bavaro and the Grand Palladium Palace, which means you've got five buffet and five a la carte restaurants at your disposal. Not to mention eleven bars, six beach bar kiosks and a luxurious spa.

Great holiday, just the disappoiting fact that we paid aextra for sea view and could hardly see it unless leaning over the balcony. No other problems though a great holiday detination. more on this review
