An introduction to Riu Taino
More a pretty village than a hotel, the Riu Taino sits on Bavaro's white sandy beach. It's surrounded by tropical greenery with rooms dotting the gardens in compact two-storey villas. Designed to echo the miniature haciendas the locals live in, they're painted in tropical brights and come with latticed balconies.
Inside, rooms are light, airy and decorated in cream and gold. Pale wicker-work furniture gives things a rustic edge. While nice-to-haves like satellite TV and air-conditioning come as standard. Plus you'll find little extras like Riu's All Inclusive soft drink minibar and spirit dispensers.
Outside, the pool scene is worth writing home about. There are two lagoon-style pools with a small swim-up bar in one. They're set into a spacious sun terrace freckled with thatched parasols and sun loungers. There's a separate kids' pool, too.
As for the food, there are three theme restaurants serving dishes from around the world. Take your pick from an Italian restaurant, steakhouse or a Caribbean restaurant with Asian, Mexican or Dominican cuisine served on alternating days. Plus there are two poolside eateries perfect for snacks. Dining aside, the Riu Taino does a mean line in evening entertainment. Think live music, shows and cabaret. Plus, you're only a short stroll from the bachata beats of Pacha nightclub that sits at the top of Caribbean Street in the heart of Riu Resort Bavaro.

We had a weeks holiday and found the hotel to be spotlessly clean, the food was excellent with a huge range of choices to suit all tastes, the service from the staff was superb, all in all the hotel was superb. we did however find the excursions very... more on this review
