Sheltering below vineyards and cypress groves, this lovely red-roofed town lies under soaring St. Elias mountain on Croatia's Peljesac Peninsula. Seepy-looking Orebic is all flower-lined streets and squares. Once a harbour for Dubrovnik's merchant ships, stone-built sea captain's mansions skirt the promenade, injecting an air of bygone opulence. Now though, they're joined by jaunty-looking cafes and restaurants - perfect for watching the world go by. When you're not relaxing here, head for the glorious pebbled coves peppering the nearby shores, each washed by jewel-hued waters. For a full-on day out, make it the beach at Trstenica. A sweep of smooth pebbles, its cafes and watersports make it perfect for long, lazy days. Back in town, roam the Maritime Museum for a flavour of Orebic's maritime past. Or set sail for Korcula – all captivating towns and secluded coves. Closer to home, take a trip to picture-perfect Ston or around Peljesac's vineyards, terraced into the mountains. Come sundown, enjoy glasses of fragrant Postup wine, nurtured in the very hills around you. Then as the moon rises, linger over a candlelit supper lulled by the whisper of waves before heading home under a romantic star-filled sky.
