Not only is this studio a comfortable and peaceful retreat, it appears to have been pulled from the pages of a history book. Sharing the grounds with another studio and small hotel, from the outside you'd be forgiven for thinking that you were looking at a converted part of a castle, such is the charm of this property.
In the beginning it was two 'pagliaghji' (dry masonry structures built with local stones), that were used as shepherds' huts and for drying chestnuts. It is located on a hill overlooking the village, on a spot where an ancient vineyard once grew, attesting to its excellent exposure with a clear view of the mountains.
The interior of this rustic property keeps with the traditional Corsican feel. Wooden beams strike across the ceilings, while the tiled floors add to the Mediterranean style. A particularly eye-catching feature is a mezzanine floor, with its low ceilings, that stretches over the kitchen and dining area.
The studio, with a fully equipped kitchen, has been traditionally furnished and entirely renovated using lime plaster.
The exterior includes a small stone-tiled patio as well as a lawn where a century-old olive tree will shelter you from the sun while you have a leisurely aperitif under the hot Corsican sun. A stone sink with its fountain of spring water as well as a barbecue and a wood oven complete the furnishings to make sure that your evenings here remain forever engraved in your memory.
France is famous for its wine and Murato is close to the wine trail of St Florent and Patrimonio, which is one of the best wine areas in Corsica and an 'AOC' approved area. Excellent reds and crisp whites are produced, as well as Rose. For wine lovers these areas are truly a slice of heaven!
Murato is the most important village of the Nebbiu and where Corsica's first coins were minted in the late 1700s. If you wish to see more of the beautiful land, take a boat ride from St Florent and discover the West Coast. Take in the sights and soak up the atmosphere of this wonderful area. Another way to discover the area is to walk from St Florent, where you can take in the sights and sounds at your own leisurely pace.
