'Relax on the sun-toasted sands of Kolios Beach – this sunny slice of Skiathos is hard to beat.'
In Skiathos' parade of great beaches, Kolios rates as one of the finest. So if you're just looking to relax in postcard-perfect surroundings, it should get those endorphins flowing. Tucked into a broad bay on the south coast, the beach ticks all those classic happiness boxes. An arc of soft, honey-toned sands that sink under your sun-soaked toes. Crystal-clear shallows kept gentle enough for kids by the two long headlands cradling the bay. All locked under a never-ending blue sky and fringe of emerald-green pines. Add the colourful splash of the watersports plied along the beach, and you've got the perfect recipe for reaching the state of soul-warming bliss you came here for. And just in case you feel like releasing that inner wild child while you're here, the lively next door beach at Vromolimnos, with its hyper-active collection of beach bars and bungee jumping, is right on hand. Of course, there are other things you'll need from Kolios to make your holiday complete. How about some friendly tavernas so you can try a different menu every day? A couple of souvenir shops and minimarkets for stocking up with snacks, souvenirs and suncream? After the rigours of the beach, you'll probably fancy a good meal with some good company too. If so, end the day with an amble along the sands as the sun ebbs in the sky and retire to a taverna terrace with new-found friends. Feel in the party mood? Then take a bus to Skiathos Town, its fairy lights twinkling notice of its happening dance clubs and music spots from its harbour. This is the life – the quiet life.

The beach is a tidy and well-kept arch of fine, golden sand with a backdrop of majestic pines providing some shade should you feel like a little break from the strong rays of the Greek sunshine. The sea is sheltered by two long headlands making the water calm, blue and great for children. There are plenty of facilities, including a broad selection of watersports. Vromolimnos Beach - in the same bay - is probably the liveliest on the island, with bungee jumping and beach bars fighting for your adrenalin.
Food and drink is a traditional affair in Kolios Beach, with hospitable tavernas dotted liberally around the resort. The menus list a good choice of Greek dishes, including Greek salads, moussakas and more unusual cuisine, such as 'gyro' - barbecued meat served on pitta bread. International fayre can also be found if your tastebuds are missing British cooking.
Nightlife is low-key, with evenings revolving around romantic walks along the beach as the orange sun sets behind the deep blue ocean. Once you've brushed the soft sand from your toes, head to a local taverna and enjoy a glass of cold wine with the locals. For livelier evenings, Skiathos Town is nearby and has bars, discos and a good live music scene.
Shopping is fairly limited in this resort, with just a couple of supermarkets stocking the essentials, and some tourist shops selling a variety of Skiathos souvenirs. Should you feel like a larger retail experience, head to Skiathos Town with its boutiques and clothes shops.
If you are a walker or rambler, Kolios Beach is a good location to choose, with paths leading inland through tree-covered plains and small villages. The walk to Kechria Beach and monastery is a particularly pleasant one, with the delights of Skiathos surfacing all around you.
