Hotel Agrilia

Small and perfectly formed, the Agrilia is a real boutique getaway. You'll find it on the outskirts of Laganas, so vibe-wise it's nice and peaceful. That said, it's still within walking distance of all the shops, bars and restaurants.

And it's not just the location that scores highly here - the hotel itself is pretty special, too. Surrounded by olive groves it comes with just 32 rooms. Arrive at dusk and you'll see the place lit up with subtle spotlighting along the pathways and under palms. Follow these to reception and you'll find yourself in a chic hotel that prides itself on its friendly atmosphere and cool design. Bedrooms are ultra-stylish and come in colour schemes of apple green, latte and pale blue. Plus, they all come with TVs, DVD players and air-conditioning. And, of course, you get a private balcony or terrace, too.

Outside, meanwhile, there's a great pool scene. Set into dark wood sundecks, the pool is a straightforward rectangular affair. It's fringed with comfy cream sunloungers and big parasols, and tucked in the corner is the pool bar. Complete with high stools and muslin curtains, it's a cool little place to sip freshly-made cocktails.

As for the food, you've got buffet breakfasts served in the funky green-coloured restaurant. Come evening though, meals are served around the spot-lit pool on crisp white tablecloths. Expect a simple menu of tasty, well put-together dishes.
