A broad and busy harbour makes-up much of the Zante Town seafront, with bustling Solomos Square at one end, and the church of Aghios Dionysios at the other. Modern murals in the church are worth seeing, and other intriguing sites in town include the library – with its pre- and post-earthquake photographs, and the main Museum's glorious exhibition of local art. Photogenic in itself and providing perfect panoramas from its ruined ramparts, the Venetian 'Kastro' fortress oversees everything from a bluff above the town. If you've got the energy, you could walk to it in 30-40 minutes and, en route, you'll pass the modern amphitheatre where al fresco concerts are held. Back in town, you'll find all the shops you'd expect of the island's capital, eateries ranging from simple local tavernas to fast food, seafood and traditional specialities. And if the night sky nudges you to go clubbing, there are lively music bars in town and disco's on the Argassi road. The lido is the likeliest spot for sea and sunsoaking – though regular buses could soon see you on the sands at Laganas. And if you're more drawn to boats than buses, you've a choice of round-the-island trips from Zante's quay.
