'This attractive inland village is made-to-measure for a take-it-slow beach holiday.'
Want to bury yourself in a Portuguese beach holiday? Acoteias hits the spot. Just six kilometres east of Albufeira, this pretty inland village is a hotch potch of modern hotels and older, orange-roofed dwellings gathered around traditional restaurants, shops and friendly bars. With more than a dash of old-time Portuguese flavour, it's an appealing spot for sun-soaked days and balmy evenings enjoying moonlit suppers with friends. The star of Acoteias' show is most definitely its beach, the stunning Praia de Falesia. Just ten minutes from the village itself, its beauty will make sun- and sea-lovers go weak at the knees. Backed by pine-topped cliffs and made of soft, golden sands, it boasts clear Atlantic waters that are a delight to swim in. Another bonus is its sheer size. Running for six kilometres, there's plenty of space for everyone – whether you fancy squirreling yourself away in a quiet corner or near one of the beach bars that freckle the sands. When you tire of the beach, Acoteias' location comes into its own. For a fun day out, take the kids to the Zoomarine park at Guia to whoop at the dolphin shows, pools and funfair rides. Head for the bustling cobbled streets of Albufeira or polish your skills at Vilamoura's pristine golf courses. Back at base, get into the relaxed mood that's part and parcel of Acoteias evenings. Take a seat at an authentic Portuguese restaurant or intimate bar and while away the hours wining and dining as the stars twinkle overhead.
The majority of Acoteias's tourist accommodation is to be found slightly away from the village, towards the coast. Basking in the sun is the resort's excellent beach, Praia de Falesia. Lounge around on the beach and sift fine sand through your fingers as you listen to the gentle lapping of waves on shore. A handful of excellent Portuguese restaurants pepper this most delightful of resorts while nearby Albufeira and Sao Joao offer even more in the way of bars, shops and restaurants.
