'With a fabulous sandy beach, clear blue seas and excellent amenities, this established resort will delight Spain-loving, sun-loving holidaymakers.'
To say that Torrox is all about the beach would be an understatement. Here, in this modern resort between Malaga and Nerja, there's really one purpose in life – to snooze the hours away on one big, blinding beach. Running parallel to a palm-lined promenade, the beach is right up there with the Costa Del Sol's finest. A three-kilometre ribbon of Blue Flag-winning sand that changes to smooth pebbles nearer the water's edge, it's a great place for topping up that tan, reading that paperback or simply letting your worries drift away. And when the Spanish sun climbs to its zenith, leave your sunbed for a reviving cold beer or ice-clunking glass of sangria at one of the sidewalk cafes or restaurants overlooking the sands. OK, it may be a done-to-death holiday formula – but hey, it's one of the best. When you get bored of your beach perch, wander behind the waterfront to trawl the excellent assortment of shops, department stores and boutiques. Alternatively, take a trip to the original Torrox, one of Andalucia's famous 'pueblos blancos'. Clinging to hillsides in the Sierra de Almijara, its white-walled centre is perfect for relaxed browsing. And if you're still hunting for mementoes, head for Velez-Malaga for its bustling Thursday market or to picturesque Nerja, where countless shops and tapas bars line a beautiful palm-shaded promenade. Back from your travels, start your night in Torrox by sauntering to its white-painted lighthouse, exploring the nearby ruins of a Roman villa on your way. And as the stars come out, take a seat at a vibrant waterfront eaterie or bar to laugh and chat the evening away to the whisper of distant waves.
Torrox Pueblo has charming white-walled houses clinging to the steep slope on which the town is built and an old Moorish quarter, with echos of the town's past importance in the silk trade between Granada and Baghdad.
