A restful residential area, backed by an awe-inspiring mountain range, you'll soon slip into the laid-back pace of life here. Taking time out has never been easier. The beach life here is just as chilled out too, with a string of breathtaking beaches almost on your doorstep. Take your pick from stunning slices of silvery-white sands that just melt into the glass-like seas. Nearby, you'll find the enchanting coves of Cala Compte and Cala Salada, or head for the bounty-like beach of Cala Bassa, one of the region's most beautiful and popular, backed by billowing trees and with sugar-like sands sloping into aquamarine-coloured waters. Or for a day out with a difference, hop on a boat and make the short crossing to the mysterious islet of Es Vedra, which featured in the film South Pacific as Bali Hai. The area is most famous however, for the Ses Paisses archaeological site. Classed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the site contains the remains of a building that was inhabited between the 5th Century BC and the 8th Century AD and is the only fully excavated Punic-Roman site on the island. Not far away from here, you can also see a small Punic necropolis with burial sites and tombs dating from the Byzantine era. And if you want to live it up, the lively resort of San Antonio is buzzing with busy bars, big name nightclubs and what's more - you can shop 'til you drop.
