Hotel Port Adriano deserves an Oscar for best location. It sits just above a sandy beach. El Toro's tiny marina is close at hand. And there are no less than seven golf courses virtually on the doorstep. Plus this great setting is garnished with waterfront restaurants and a handful of local shops.
As far as looks go, it's reminiscent of famous facades such as Rome's Colosseum. The arched and columned building curves around the clifftop like an amphitheatre - giving every inch of the hotel grandstand views of the bay below. Take the lobby for instance. This titanic stretch of marble merges into a wall of windows that overlook the ocean.
The pool's grabbed a front-row seat, too. A sunken affair on the edge of the terrace, it's the epitome of infinity styling and comes complete with smart wooden sun loungers, potted palms and vast white canvas parasols. And if you really want to raise the bar on relaxation there's a state of the art spa here, featuring everything from hydrotherapy pools to muscle-melting massages.
Room-wise, it's modern and stylish all the way. Each sophisticated space comes with added extras like satellite TV and a private terrace or balcony. For something really special, book a junior suite - they come complete with separate living areas, oversized bathrooms and whirlpool bathtubs. But whichever room type you opt for, rest assured they're all dressed in the same neutral shades, with air-conditioning, bathrobes and sea views as standard.
And on the food and drink front, there's more of the same effortless chic. Widescreen bay views, and white linen are all used to great effect in The Splendour, where an a la carte menu's served with a side order of floor-to-ceiling drapes and contemporary chandeliers. It's all marble and walnut woodwork in the Marina bar. And the lobby bar brings a touch of the outdoors indoors with conservatory-type wicker chairs and nautical red and white-striped cushions.
Overlooking the sea, the hotel is near El Toro, a small leisure port with a few shops, and the Port of Adriano, which has a greater selection.
